As I have been looker deeper and deeper into the Hummingbird, I had some really clear insights on Balance…….
The Hummingbird as we know is so incredibly beautiful but did you know that she beats her wings at a rate of 80 beats per second - YES, per second!!! That is incredibly fast!! What's even more fascinating is the unique figure-8 sequence in which they move their wings! In flight, they basically form an infinity symbol with their wings. This distinctive motion enables the hummingbird to move forwards, backwards, and to also maintain a hovering position.
Hummingbirds are busy little birds and their hearts beat at over 1,263 beats per minute. At night however, when the temperature drops, they enter a state of torpor, allowing them to rest and educe their heart rate to as low as 50 beats a minute to conserve energy. Hummingbirds are simply amazing!!!
Ok so let’s get back to the info I shared about their figure-8 wing movement, particularly in relation to the state of hovering. So this gave me a deeper understanding about “BALANCE”. Ok so hear me out. We are always seeking balance within ourself, yes? But how do we actually perceive balance? Do we think of it as a static state of being? Almost as if it were a pause or breath between 2 extremes? Do we think of it as a state where we are detached from both and are therefore neither one nor the other? Or do we think of BALANCE as a dynamic space between two energetic polarities?
The Hummingbird's continuous, quick motion challenges these conventional notions of balance. Although she appears motionless and suspended in air, achieving perfect stillness, the hummingbird is, in fact, in constant, rapid motion. This realisation suggests that true balance requires actively receiving and responding to stimuli simultaneously so that equilibrium is maintained while navigating the dynamic currents of everyday life. Hummingbird therefore shows us that achieving balance is not synonymous with stagnation but rather is a dynamic force.
Ahh, thank you hummingbird for showing us how to find balance amid motion and remain agile in the face of life's ever-changing landscape.
How do you find balance in your daily life? is it through meditation? Through walks in nature? Through journalling? Playing with you children or fur babies? However you do, I am sure you would find that there is a dynamic force that is running through you when you do.
